Social Anxiety

Social anxiety is a persistent fear of being in social situations or being around people.

People affected by this may experience symptoms of anxiety engaging in activities where other people may be, for example doing the weekly shopping, socialising with family and friends etc.

Thoughts about how the person will be in social situations ("I'll say something stupid," "people will think I'm boring," "people won't like me") cause symptoms of anxiety and lead people to avoid social situations which can make completing daily activities very difficult.
