Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
1 in 3 people who experience a traumatic event may develop symptoms of PTSD.
Symptoms can include problems with sleep, nightmares and flashbacks of the traumatic event, which can lead to avoidance of places and people that are reminders of the event.
People can have emotional reactions, which may include irritability, outbursts of aggression, guilt or shame, and feeling on guard or that they are more at risk or vulnerable now to it happening again.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and EMDR can be used to effectively treat symptoms of PTSD.
